On the 10th day of his inauguration, Prime Minister Suga visited Fukushima Prefecture, inspected areas affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake, and toured the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant.
The Japanese Prime Minister's visit to the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant was one year and five months after former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe went there in April of last year, and Prime Minister Suga himself visited the site for the first time since the earthquake.
According to Kyodo News, Prime Minister Suga heard an explanation of the progress of the decommissioning work and the contaminated water at the nuclear power plant from an executive at the Tokyo Electric Power Company, and asked, "I think it's a great work," and "work safely and steadily."
Kyodo News Agency analyzed that the choice of Fukushima as Prime Minister Suga's first business trip after taking office was that the new cabinet also threw a message that it would devote all efforts to revitalization of the areas affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake.
The Suga Cabinet did not mention the earthquake and nuclear accident in the basic policy of state administration decided in the first resolution on the 16th, and some were pointed out that it would be ignoring the revival of areas affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake.
