Amid growing opposition to the hosting of the Tokyo Olympics in Japan, the organizers of the Games have started preparing for the opening in earnest.
The Games Organizing Committee has announced a large-scale traffic control plan around related facilities, including the National Stadium, the main Olympic stadium in Shinjuku, Tokyo.
On the roads around the National Stadium, from the 8th to the 30th of September, traffic control will be implemented in which general vehicles are prohibited by section.
The Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games will be held from July 23rd to August 8th based on the opening ceremony, and the Paralympic Games will be held from August 24th to September 5th, respectively.
The organizing committee also announced that a large-scale transportation training using buses will be held between 11:30 pm on the 19th and 5:00 am on the 20th, assuming the opening and closing ceremonies.
During the transport training, in which 150 buses are mobilized to transport the team, general vehicles are prohibited from passing around the National Stadium as well as the surrounding roads.
In the midst of this, there was also a report that some sponsors of the Tokyo Olympics had proposed to postpone the event for about two months.
The Financial Times reported that some sponsors of the Tokyo Olympics, hoping to increase advertising effectiveness with a larger audience, have proposed delaying the Olympics until September or October.
In this regard, an official from a sponsoring company also expressed the view that if the Olympics are postponed from September to October, the Japanese public's opposition to the event will weaken as vaccination progresses and the weather becomes cooler.
A total of 71 companies are sponsoring the Tokyo Olympics, including Toyota Motor, Panasonic, and Bridgestone.
