Injury and “Corona” deprive Al-Ahly of 5 players in the Club World Cup
The Egyptian Al-Ahly Club announced today the absence of five of its players from the list that will participate in the FIFA Club World Cup, which will be hosted by the UAE capital Abu Dhabi from the third to 12 February.
The absences are considered a painful blow to Al-Ahly, especially as they affect important players.
Dr. Ahmed Abu Abla, the doctor of the first football team in Al-Ahly, said in statements to the official website of his club today that the striker, Salah Mohsen, underwent surgery this morning in the metatarsal in a major hospital in Cairo.
He added that Salah Mohsen was suffering from a broken metatarsal, and therefore he needed surgical intervention, explaining that the player will be absent for a period ranging between seven and eight weeks, during which he will undergo a physiotherapy and rehabilitation program.
And Al-Ahly’s doctor said that Ahmed Nabil “Koka”, the left-back of the team, had undergone careful medical examinations during the past days, after he was infected with the Corona virus.
He added that the tests proved his need for a negative rest of up to a month and a half due to his suffering from some complications of Corona that only appear through those tests.
He revealed that the team's striker, Hossam Hassan, will miss group training for up to two weeks due to a calf injury.
He said that the x-rays that Hossam Hassan underwent this morning proved his injury, and he will start implementing a physical rehabilitation program starting from tomorrow, Monday, to recover from the injury he suffered yesterday in the Arab Contractors match within the Egyptian Professional Clubs League Cup.
And Al-Ahly of Egypt had announced that the right-back, Akram Tawfiq, would undergo cruciate ligament surgery after he was injured in the Egyptian team’s match against Nigeria in the African Nations Cup currently held in Cameroon, and Moroccan Badr Bannon will also be absent from the Club World Cup due to complications from the Corona virus infection.
