  • The circulation of the virus is progressing strongly in Pays-de-la-Loire, in particular in Loire-Atlantique.

  • The incidence rate increased sharply in just a few days.

  • Maine-et-Loire remains the only department of Pays-de-la-Loire to undergo a curfew.

"The situation is serious and more and more worrying", announced this Tuesday Jean-Jacques Coiplet, director of the regional health agency of Pays-de-la-Loire (ARS).

According to the latest epidemiological figures, the incidence rate in Pays-de-la-Loire has now reached 250 new cases per 100,000 inhabitants.

It was only 164 last Thursday, the day of government announcements regarding the implementation of curfews in 54 departments.

If Maine-et-Loire remains, to this day, the only department in the region undergoing a curfew, it is difficult to see how Loire-Atlantique could escape such a measure in the short term.

Its incidence rate, which was only 187 last Thursday, has since crossed the trigger threshold of 200 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.

It even peaks on Tuesday at 276. The situation is worse in Nantes metropolis where this rate has climbed to 334. The positivity rate among those tested has gone from 11% (Thursday) to 14%.

Space in hospitals

"The epidemiological evolution is becoming extremely worrying, especially for people over 65 years old", comments Jean-Jacques Coiplet.

But future decisions "are the responsibility of the prefectural authority and the Prime Minister after the meeting of the National Defense Council", specifies the director general of the ARS.

Certain behaviors are singled out, such as the appearance of a “new cluster” (eight positive students) within Audencia school after “private parties”.

Regarding hospitalizations, 25 patients with Covid-19 are now in intensive care in Loire-Atlantique.

That's 11 more than last Thursday.

However, we are still far from the peak of 70 patients in intensive care observed in early April.

At the Nantes University Hospital, 17 patients suffering from the coronavirus are in intensive care on Tuesday, out of a total of 92 open beds.

The local situation being less tense than elsewhere, three patients from the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region are being transferred to Nantes and Saint-Nazaire on Tuesday.
