The Hebrew Channel 12 reported that senior Israeli political parties expressed anger over these statements, which they described as "uncoordinated and surprising", given the Lebanese army's relations with Hezbollah.

And the Israeli Defense Minister had said - in a speech at the Tel Aviv University Security Studies Conference - that Lebanon had turned into an unstable island, and that he had offered assistance to Lebanon 4 times, the last of which was last week through the commander of the International Emergency Forces (UNIFIL).

Gantz stated that he wants to provide assistance to the Lebanese army, which suffers from a basic lack of equipment, at a time when Hezbollah continues to strengthen its strength with direct support from Iran.

Parliamentary elections

On the other hand, the Speaker of the Lebanese Parliament, Nabih Berri, said yesterday, Thursday, that he would not accept the postponement of the parliamentary elections, even for one minute.

Berri, whose party - the Shiite Amal Movement - is allied with Hezbollah, added in statements to the Lebanese "NBN" television, "What unites Saudi Arabia and Iran is much greater than what separates them."

On the other hand, Hezbollah spokesman Ihab Hamadeh said - yesterday, Thursday - that the group is committed to the National Accord Document, "without any increase or decrease."

The National Accord document is based on the 1989 Taif Agreement that ended the civil war in Lebanon.
