police announced the results of an interim investigation into the collapse of a building in Gwangju last month, which killed 17 people. As a result of the investigation, it was revealed in various places that it was a human resource that was brought about by the total insolvency demolition.

building where the accident occurred was demolished without considering the condition of the exterior walls at all.

The dismantling plan was to dismantle the building with the least strength among the four walls in order, but it was not followed.

A plan to demolish the building from the highest floor to the top of the building was also neglected by building a three-story-high soil next to it and excavating work on it.

Workers first demolished the interior of the lower level of the building and then piled up the soil inside the building.

The load inside the building had to increase, which was a decisive factor in the collapse of the building.

It turned out that the soil was forcibly piled up inside the building because a small excavator that did not meet the standard was used to reduce costs.

[Noh Gwang-il / Gwangju Police Agency Violent Crime Investigation Team: At the time of the accident, the excavator seemed to have no choice but to enter the building and proceed with the demolition work because the working radius was not reached.]

Not only soil but also wastes generated during the demolition process are accumulated inside the building to reduce the load. The ground floor on the first floor was not able to hold up.

One of the reasons for the collapse of the building was that more water than usual was sprayed on the work site.

As a result of the analysis of the cause of the collapse of the building, complex negligence was confirmed during the demolition work, and interest is being drawn on whether additional charges may be applied to those involved.
