A French soldier from the Barkhane force died Friday July 31 in N'Djamena, Chad during a maintenance operation, the Ministry of the Armed Forces announced in a statement.

Aged 25 and father of a child, Brigadier-Chief Andy Fila, electromechanical refrigeration engineer was "fatally hit by the explosion of an equipment" while performing a maintenance intervention on a refrigeration unit at the base by Kossei. An investigation is underway to determine the exact circumstances of the accident.

More than 40 soldiers killed in operations Serval and Barhane

Brigadier-Chief Andy Fila belonged to the 14th Infantry and Parachute Logistics Support Regiment in Toulouse.

In 2014, the Barkhane force took over throughout the Sahel from Operation Serval launched in Mali in January 2013.

More than 40 soldiers engaged in the ranks of the French army in the cadres of Serval then Barkhane lost their lives, mainly in Mali.
