EU wants to suspend flights to and from countries affected by the new variant

The European Commission proposed this Friday to member states to suspend flights to and from southern Africa and other countries affected by the appearance of the new variant B.1.1.529, announced its president, Ursula von der Leyen.

The news about the new COVID variant is very concerning.

"The European Commission today proposed to Member States to activate the 'emergency brake' on travel from southern African countries and other affected countries to limit the spread of the new variant. All air travel to these countries must be suspended until we have a good understanding of the danger posed by this new variant, "she said in a statement.
