Dubai Electricity and Water Authority records an increase of 6.6% in the peak load
Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Managing Director and CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, announced that the peak load of electricity in the Emirate of Dubai has increased during the current year until today to 9,074 MW, compared to 8,516 MW for the annual peak load in 2019, an increase of 558 MW and its percentage 6.6%, which is the highest increase in peak load since 2012.
Al Tayer said: “Based on our vision as a global leader in sustainable and innovative, we actively contribute to the provision of continuous and stable supplies of electricity and water, as we work to support the vision and strategic plans of the Dubai government aimed at achieving comprehensive and sustainable development in the emirate of Dubai. The increase in the peak load in Dubai confirms the revival of various social and economic activities in the emirate. The authority's production capacity is 11,700 megawatts of electricity and 470 million gallons of water per day.
He added: “The authority continues to work to raise its production capacity of electricity and water, as well as the capacity of transmission and distribution networks in line with the expansion of urban and economic areas in Dubai. The authority is considered one of the best distinguished service institutions in the world according to standard comparisons with its counterparts in developed countries, as the authority recorded distinction in efficiency, reliability, sustainability and optimal management of the infrastructure of electricity and water. The authority has achieved very competitive results, even surpassing the private sector, surpassing the elite of European and American companies in efficiency and reliability, represented in reducing losses in the transmission and distribution networks of electricity to 3.2%, compared to 6-7% in Europe and the United States of America. The percentage of wastage in water networks decreased to about 6.6%, compared to 15% in North America. The authority set a new world record in the average power outage per subscriber, with an average of 1.86 minutes interruption per subscriber per year, compared to 15 minutes at the largest electricity companies in the European Union.
