Activists and human rights organizations in the United Arab Emirates revealed that thirty detainees were infected with the Corona virus in Emirati prisons.

Activists pointed to the outbreak of the Corona Virus in Al Wathba prison in Abu Dhabi, where a number of political detainees are being held, and called for pressure to release all detainees there.

The activists criticized what they described as the deliberate negligence of prisoners by the Emirati authorities and called on human rights organizations to intervene to protect the detainees.

For its part, the Emirates Center for Human Rights confirmed that the Omani detainee Abdullah Al Shamsi was infected with the Corona virus in Al Wathba prison.

The center had referred to the poor conditions of prisoners of conscience in Emirati prisons, and demanded their immediate release and the end of what he described as the arbitrary detention that continued for more than three years against some prisoners.
