The Minister of Culture, Franck Riester, obtained a stay for the Saint-Joseph chapel in Lille, a building which was soon to be demolished. This grace period must make it possible to seek an alternative to its destruction.

Petition signed by 5,500 people
“It was a project of the Catholic University which had obtained the green light from the Buildings of France. Therefore, the city services could not oppose it, “said Martine Aubry, mayor (PS) of Lille.
Violette Spillebout, candidate (LREM) for mayor of Lille, had asked, last week, the cancellation of the demolition permit, stressing that a petition to save it had been signed by 5,500 people and that "the building is located within the perimeter classified as a Historic Monument of the Palais Rameau ”
Not classified as historic monuments
Even if the chapel, which dates from 1886, is not itself listed as a historic monument, "it is part of our Lille heritage. Destroying heritage is a blow to future generations, and I am delighted that Stéphane Bern (commissioned by the executive for a national heritage mission) is taking a stand to save the chapel, ”she said.
The Yncrea project could be built elsewhere, on the Lille port sector or on the Transpole wasteland, according to the candidate LREM.
