It is stipulated in the three Sino-US joint communiqués, not the "Taiwan Relations Act" or the "six guarantees."

　　On August 31, U.S. Assistant Secretary of State Stuart Stilwell stated in a video forum hosted by the Heritage Foundation, a US think tank, that for the past 40 years, US policy has been based on the “Taiwan Relations Act”, the three Sino-US Joint Communiqués, and President Reagan’s response to Taiwan. The United States has decrypted the "six guarantees" for Taiwan during the Reagan era, and these guarantees are still valid today.

The latest US move is not a policy change, but one of a series of major adjustments within the framework of the "One China" policy.

Stawell said that the United States is establishing a new bilateral economic dialogue with Taiwan, aimed at strengthening relations with Taiwan and supporting it in responding to Chinese pressure.

The so-called "Taiwan Relations Act" unilaterally enacted by the United States and the so-called "six guarantees" for Taiwan by the United States seriously violated the one-China principle and the provisions of the three Sino-US joint communiques, severely violated the basic norms of international relations, and grossly interfered in China's internal affairs. Completely wrong, illegal, and invalid, the Chinese government resolutely opposed it from the beginning.

What the US should abide by is the one-China principle and the three Sino-US joint communiqués, not the "Taiwan Relations Act" or the "six guarantees."
