China News Service, Beijing, September 1 (Huang Yuqin) In response to U.S. Assistant Secretary of State Shi Dawei’s recent Taiwan-related remarks, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying stated at a regular press conference on September 1 that the United States should abide by the one-China principle. It is stipulated in the three Sino-US joint communiqués, not the "Taiwan Relations Act" or the "six guarantees."

On August 31, U.S. Assistant Secretary of State Stuart Stilwell stated in a video forum hosted by the Heritage Foundation, a US think tank, that for the past 40 years, US policy has been based on the “Taiwan Relations Act”, the three Sino-US Joint Communiqués, and President Reagan’s response to Taiwan. Guarantee” as the guide.

The United States has decrypted the "six guarantees" for Taiwan during the Reagan era, and these guarantees are still valid today.

The latest US move is not a policy change, but one of a series of major adjustments within the framework of the "One China" policy.

Stawell said that the United States is establishing a new bilateral economic dialogue with Taiwan, aimed at strengthening relations with Taiwan and supporting it in responding to Chinese pressure.

At the regular press conference of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs held on September 1, some reporters asked questions about relevant remarks.

In response, Hua Chunying said that there is only one China in the world and Taiwan is an inalienable part of Chinese territory.

The one-China principle is the political foundation and fundamental prerequisite for the establishment and development of diplomatic relations between China and the United States.

The so-called "Taiwan Relations Act" unilaterally enacted by the United States and the so-called "six guarantees" for Taiwan by the United States seriously violated the one-China principle and the provisions of the three Sino-US joint communiques, severely violated the basic norms of international relations, and grossly interfered in China's internal affairs. Completely wrong, illegal, and invalid, the Chinese government resolutely opposed it from the beginning.

What the US should abide by is the one-China principle and the three Sino-US joint communiqués, not the "Taiwan Relations Act" or the "six guarantees."

Hua Chunying emphasized that the Taiwan issue concerns China's sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as China's core interests.

No one can underestimate China's firm determination and will to defend national sovereignty and territorial integrity.

We urge the US to abide by the one-China principle and the provisions of the three Sino-US Joint Communiqués, stop promoting the substantive relations between the US and Taiwan, stop any form of official exchanges with Taiwan, and stop going further and further down the wrong and dangerous road.
