Samir Handal was arrested on his arrival at Istanbul airport where he was to transit, apparently having Jordan as his final destination.
According to the Turkish news agency DHA, he was traveling in possession of Haitian and Jordanian passports as well as a passport of the Palestinian Authority.
After
the assassination
of President
Jovenel Moïse
on July 7, the Haitian police had issued a wanted notice against him for "assassination, attempted assassination and armed robbery", specifying that the individual was considered "
dangerous and armed
”.
It was therefore more than 9,000 kilometers from Port-au-Prince that Samir Handal was arrested.

A suspected member of the commando who killed Jovenel Moïse was arrested in Jamaica last month, but for lack of an agreement on the matter with Haiti, he is said to be on the verge of being returned to Colombia, his country of origin.
