Since the Second World War, the Eiffel Tower had never been closed for so long. After three and a half months of confinement, the monument which welcomes six million visitors each year will reopen on Thursday. However, it will still take several weeks before returning to normal operation.
For a week, access to the first and second floors of the lady to do will be done exclusively by the stairs. The east staircase for the climb, the west staircase for the descent.
Gradual reopening of elevators
The elevators will reopen on July 1 with a limited gauge and will only serve the first two floors. To return to the top of the monument, it will take another fifteen days.
The reason: narrower elevators which do not allow for the physical distance in force. Masks will also be mandatory for all visitors over the age of 11.
Preferential rates
To attract visitors, preferential rates have been set up. All summer long, children from 4 to 11 years old will pay half price, that is 1.30 euros for the brave who will take the stairs and 2 euros for those who will choose the elevator.
A measure aimed in particular at attracting a French public when the latter usually only represent 20% of visitors.
