According to reports, local police said the incident occurred on the platform of the N/Q/R line of the Times Square subway station on 42nd Street.
A woman was pushed onto the tracks as a southbound R train pulled in at about 9.40am on the 15th.
When police arrived, they found the woman lying on the tracks, traumatized and unconscious.
She was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.
Police said the victim had not had any contact with the suspect before the incident, and the suspect had harassed another non-Asian woman before pushing the person, but was avoided by the other party.
According to reports, the suspect fled the scene and then went to the police station to surrender himself and has been detained.
