Italy reopened the Leaning Tower of Pisa, one of Italy's most popular tourist sites, after it closed for three months due to measures to contain the Corona virus.

"It is an important day, as we are making a new beginning to open the area," said Perfrancesco Basini, head of the "Primazial Pisana" website, in an interview with Italian news agency ANSA.

A crowd was hastily invited to commemorate those who died from the virus and to attract visitors to the site.

Basini added that practically no tourists had arrived, adding that it was important to show a "sign of confidence and hope."

Another tourist attraction will open again, as the Roman Coliseum and "Vatican Museums" will be opened on Monday.
