A response to critics pointing to a lack of secure cycle paths linking the municipalities to each other.

The elected officials of Nantes Métropole approved on Thursday the creation of a 7.5 kilometer bicycle route which will link Nantes to Couëron by 2025. The two-way track, which will benefit from a platform separated from the roadway, will also serve Saint- Herblain and Indre.

Between Haute-Indre and Couëron, it will not follow the Loire but will take the “route des sables” (VM107).

Part of the route already exists at the level of the rue des factories (Nantes) and the quai Cormerais (Saint-Herblain).

Total cost of the project: 8.6 million euros.

Pedestrian facilities will be made on this occasion.

Another axis between Nantes and La Chapelle-sur-Erdre

In addition to this Nantes-Couëron axis, the creation of another cycle route leading from La Chapelle-sur-Erdre to Nantes-north, along VM n°69, has been validated.

The provisional envelope is around 2 million euros.

Full commissioning is scheduled for 2025.

Several other long cycle paths should be announced next June.

All are part of a large "metropolitan bicycle network" which provides, by 2026, 50 kilometers of major "legible and secure" axes to encourage bicycle travel.

Several other long cycle paths should be announced next June.
