Vendée Globe race director Jacques Caraës said on Tuesday that the French frigate Nivôse could probably come and recover from the Kerguelen Islands side Kevin Escoffier, the shipwrecked skipper rescued Tuesday morning by another competitor, Jean Le Cam.
“The first priority is to find a solution to let Jean (Le Cam) continue his race.
There are no huge solutions in these oceans, the only potential solution is the Nivôse frigate, which monitors French fisheries, ”Caraës told AFP.
“We have to find the drop-off point as quickly as possible to be able to disembark it.
The passage to the Kerguelen Islands is on the initial trajectory of the race, so it is doable in terms of competition.
The ETA (estimated time of arrival) of the meeting brings us to December 7, ”continued Caraës, who is awaiting a return from the French navy.
The Kergelen Islands are still a bit far away.

The race director is also awaiting more precise weather files on the conditions in this area in a week.
“A transshipment at sea is a delicate operation”, he warned, hoping for “something more lenient” than what he can foresee now.
The other possibility would be a Liberian merchant ship, the Pearl, which is heading for Singapore.
