A man of 40 is tried from this Monday for murder before the Assize Court of Ille-et-Vilaine in Rennes.

He is accused of having killed a 23-year-old homeless woman in the spring of 2018. The young woman's body in a very advanced state of decomposition was found on May 27, 2018 in the cellar of a building located on Boulevard de la Liberté in Rennes city center.

It was the owner of an apartment, wishing to sell his property, who had made the macabre discovery on his way to the cellar.

The autopsy of the victim's body had confirmed the criminal trail.

"The autopsy performed had found a fracture of the hyoid bone leaving suspect a death by strangulation", had then specified the public prosecutor of the time Nicolas Jacquet.

The accused had left his apartment on the day of the discovery of the body

An individual living in the building was arrested in June in the Paris region before being indicted and imprisoned.

On the day of the body's discovery, he left his apartment and cut the phone.

A jacket with bloodstains from the young woman had also been found at her home.

The investigation had determined that the accused knew the victim whom he had sheltered on several occasions.

Already sentenced twenty times, the forty-something must be tried until Thursday before the Assize Court.
