From this year's Liberation Day, substitute holidays will be applied to all public holidays that overlap weekends.

At the plenary session today (29th), the National Assembly decided to enact the 'Act on Public Holidays' with this content.

Up until now, substitute holidays were applied only to Chuseok, Lunar New Year's Day, and Children's Day, but from now on, it will be extended to all public holidays.

The first weekday after the weekend that overlaps with a public holiday is a substitute holiday.

It will be applied from Liberation Day on August 15th, which is a Sunday, and the 16th will be a substitute public holiday.

This means that there will be 4 additional holidays this year, until the National Foundation Day (Sunday) on October 3, Hangeul Day (Saturday) on the 9th, and Christmas (Saturday) on December 25.

However, this does not apply to businesses with fewer than 5 employees.

The People's Power opposed the bill, saying that it was not equitable as more than 3.6 million workers were excluded.

He also did not participate in the decision of the standing committee.

In a debate against the plenary session, Rep. Lee Young, the People's Strength, said, "This is an evil law wrapped in good intentions and a law that was hastily enforced under the pretext of urgency." I ask the government to make a proper bill and submit it again in line with the purpose of guarantee."

On the other hand, Democratic Party lawmaker Hae-sik Lee said, "It is a matter of the Labor Standards Act that workers at workplaces with fewer than five employees are not fully guaranteed the right to rest." "He said.

Justice Party lawmaker Kang Eun-mi said, "We cannot help asking whether workers in workplaces with fewer than five employees are non-national," and argued that "the Labor Standards Act should be amended at the National Assembly in July to eliminate discrimination in businesses with fewer than five employees.
