Fourteen international flights departing from or destined for Spain were canceled on Friday due to the strike by pilots of the Easyjet company in the country, announced one of the unions calling for the movement.
This strike comes on top of other social movements initiated by other companies since the start of the summer, in the middle of the tourist season and the resumption of activity after the Covid-19 pandemic.
Easyjet's Spanish pilots have scheduled work stoppages every weekend in August from Friday to Sunday.
A total of 14 cancellations have been recorded until midday (11:30 a.m. GMT / 1:30 p.m. Spanish time), said the Spanish union of airline pilots (Sepla).
Six of the affected flights were to depart or arrive in Barcelona while eight others were destined or originated in Palma de Mallorca.
Last week, the weekend strike resulted in 36 cancellations.
The pilots are demanding the return of their pre-pandemic working conditions and new negotiations around the new collective agreement.
In the middle of the high tourist season, this Easyjet strike comes on top of the ongoing strike by the flight crew of another low-cost airline, Irish Ryanair, which has so far had a limited impact with more delays than cancellations.
Added to this is the social movement of the cabin crew of Iberia Express - a low-cost subsidiary of the Spanish company - which should last ten days from August 28 to September 6, according to the USO union (Union Syndicale Ouvrière).
