10 dead, including 3 children, in a fire in Pennsylvania

Ten people, including three children, died in a house fire in a rural area in the east of the state, Pennsylvania State Police announced.

Police said the fire broke out in the Neskopic agricultural area in northeastern Pennsylvania.

The fire broke out in the early hours of the morning in Niskopiek, in the north-east of the state.

Three adults survived the fire.

Police said that "the house was completely destroyed by fire" and that units had been deployed to help in the search for victims.

Pictures carried by US media showed the charred walls of the two-storey house crumbling.

An investigation has been opened to determine the cause of the fire.
