Three people were killed, including Deputy Turkish Consul Wednesday, firing in the city of Arbil, the largest cities in the Kurdistan region of Iraq.

Neighboring Turkey has launched an air and ground offensive on a mountainous area in northern Iraq, targeting PKK hideouts, which the United States and the European Union also consider a "terrorist organization."

On the other hand, the PKK announced the death of a member of the party's foreign relations committee, Sarhad Varto, in addition to four other gunmen in a Turkish raid on a party site in northern Iraq.

This is the second leader to be targeted after the death of Diari Gharib, one of the most prominent leaders of the party on the fifth of this month after being targeted in a Turkish raid.

Turkish warplanes have stepped up attacks on PKK positions in northern Iraq.
