The lifeless body of a 10-year-old boy was found on Wednesday in the landing gear of an Air France plane, from Abidjan, in Ivory Coast.
The plane, a Boeing 777, took off from Abidjan, the economic capital of Ivory Coast, on Tuesday night and landed in Paris shortly after 6 in the morning.
The airline has confirmed in a statement the death of a "clandestine passenger" and has lamented a "human tragedy" but did not give details of the victim's age.
"Beyond the human tragedy, this indicates a major security breach at the Abidjan airport," said an Ivorian security source, who wondered how a child was able to access a plane and if he had accomplices.
In recent years, several stowaways, including teenagers, have been found frozen or crushed dead in airplane landing gear.
