09 September 2019Hong Kong's democratic activist Joshua Wong was released after a brief detention following an error in his bail conditions. His party, Demosisto, reported this.

"Joshua Wong is traveling to Germany today and will be authorized to enter the United States as scheduled," a spokesman for his party told AFP, adding that he will be abroad until the end of September.

The 22-year-old is among the most important supporters of democracy arrested at the end of last month in a police raid while in Hong Kong pro-democracy demonstrations have been going on for over three months.

Wong had been accused, among the various charges, of "inciting others to take part in unauthorized meetings" and then released on bail.

Yesterday the young man stated that he was detained at Hong Kong airport for "breach of bail conditions" after returning from Taiwan and trying to make another trip abroad to Germany. He also planned to travel to the United States later.

The 22-year-old was released by a court today after detecting that the detention was a procedural error and that the requirements of his release on bail allowed him to make any trip abroad organized before his arrest. Local news station Rthk reported this.

Wong started his career as an activist when he was 12 and later became one of the leaders of the great 'Umbrella Movement' democratic protests in 2014 that failed to get any concession from Beijing. He was previously imprisoned for his involvement in those protests.
