A criminal case has been opened against the ex-president of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko and the current minister of foreign affairs of the country, Pavel Klimkin. Such a decision was made by the Solomensky District Court of Kiev, having examined the complaint of an unnamed citizen. He said that on July 15 he filed a statement of criminal offenses committed by Poroshenko and Klimkin, but no action was taken after that.
On August 15, a Kiev court granted the Ukrainian complaint and ordered the National Anti-Corruption Bureau to open criminal proceedings.
The circumstances of the case are not specified. According to Ukrainian News, citing court materials, the case was instituted under Art. 364 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (abuse of power or official position).
In addition, the Shevchenkovsky District Court of Kiev ordered the State Bureau of Investigation of Ukraine to open criminal proceedings against the Ukrainian Ombudsman Lyudmila Denisova on the fact of possible abuse of power.
Director of the Ukrainian Institute for Analysis and Policy Management Ruslan Bortnik in an interview with RT suggested that the new case against Poroshenko, like the previous ones, would not be investigated with great zeal.
“The very scheme for initiating this criminal case - through a court decision - suggests that law enforcement agencies did not want to initiate it. Now they are being forced, therefore, most likely, it will be investigated very badly and will be more of an instrument of such informational and political pressure on Poroshenko and his team, will go into that galaxy of cases that are being conducted against him or in which he takes part in as a witness, ”said the expert.
In his opinion, all criminal cases against the ex-president of Ukraine "discredit him in the eyes of the voter and in the eyes of potential Western defenders."
Earlier, the State Bureau of Investigation (GBR) of Ukraine filed 11 criminal cases against Poroshenko and other dignitaries in Ukraine. Note that after reports of the initiation of previous cases, Attorney General Yuri Lutsenko said that the ex-president is a witness in all cases in which his name appears.
At the same time, Lutsenko is not interested in bringing the proceedings to the end, according to American billionaire of Ukrainian origin Sam Kislin, who previously said that during the presidency Poroshenko withdrew from Ukraine at least $ 8 billion abroad.
"He is his own man in the" family. " Poroshenko and Lutsenko are corrupt officials who worked not for their people, but for their pockets and stole a lot of money, ”he said.
Investigations against Poroshenko
According to political analyst Alexander Asafov, the initiation of criminal cases is a necessary process that will most accurately identify all ways of misappropriation of state funds.
“A mechanism has been launched to painfully and painlessly wean the accumulated values in some understandable amounts. In order to establish these volumes, it is necessary to conduct operational-search measures, investigative actions, that is, interrogations, calls, ”Asafov explained to RT.
He is sure that "all the affairs around Poroshenko that are conducted by the State Security Bureau, NABU and a number of other institutions are an inventory of Poroshenko’s property and its surroundings."
Back in May of this year, the lawyer and former deputy head of the administration of Viktor Yanukovych, Andrey Portnov, announced that he intends to seize all of Poroshenko’s assets.

Experts interviewed by RT are sure that the investigation of the new case will be delayed. The director of the Kiev Center for Political Studies and Conflictology, Mikhail Pogrebinsky, said in an interview with RT that, by and large, “few people are interested in the fate of Klimkin,” but there are “many who want to put Poroshenko in prison, and it will be difficult for him.”
The ex-president himself, speaking at a congress of the European Affairs party, said that he was responsible to the Ukrainian people and was not afraid of persecution.
