Qatar announced on Saturday that it had registered the first case of the emerging coronavirus with a person returning from Iran.

The Qatari Ministry of Health said that the injured man, a 36-year-old Qatari, is one of the citizens whom the state "evacuated on a private plane from Iran and those who were subjected to quarantine" upon their arrival in Doha on Thursday.

The ministry began "examining all close contacts of the patient and implementing appropriate quarantine measures," according to the Qatar News Agency.

The virus has caused the death of 43 people in Iran, including 9 deaths in the past 24 hours, while the number of infections Saturday reached 593 cases.

The BBC Persian channel reported unidentified sources on Friday that 210 people had died in Iran with the virus, noting that most of the deaths were concentrated in Qom and in the capital, Tehran.
