04 September 2019The Pope is flying to Maputo, the capital of Mozambique. The Alitalia 330 airbus took off at 8.07 from Rome's "Leonardo da Vinci" airport. The papal plane is scheduled to land at Maputo airport at 6.30 pm local time, the same in Italy.

During the seven days of stay Pope Francis will also visit Madagascar and Mauricius where a series of political, pastoral and interreligious meetings are scheduled. A total of 15 speeches will be given by Pope Francis during this trip abroad, which follows the last three days in Romania, completed from May 31st to June 2nd.

To welcome him at the airport of the capital Maputo there will be the president Filipe Nyusi, signatory last August 6 of the historic peace agreement with the opposition of Renamo, an agreement that will also lead to the elections next October 15th. After the welcome ceremony the Pope will go to the apostolic nunciature.

The trip to Mozambique will come alive tomorrow with the courtesy visit to the president, the meeting with the civil authorities and the diplomatic corps, the interreligious meeting with young people. In the afternoon he will see bishops, priests, men and women religious, consecrated men, seminarians, catechists and animators and will visit the Casa Matteo 25 which assists young people and street children.
