- If you are given instructions to escape, then you must escape. That's the only way we can guarantee your security.

That was the message - or perhaps the warning - when the State of Victoria's Prime Minister Daniel Andrews made the statement yesterday.

Among other things, parts of Kangaroo Island, a tourist magnet with rich wildlife but now becoming an inferno, have again been evacuated. Just a day earlier, the Australian Prime Minister appealed to tourists not to turn Kangaroo Island back because of the fires.

One billion animals dead

According to the latest data, a third of Kangaroo Island has been destroyed in the fires. And throughout Australia, an area large as South Korea has burned. The result: 27 people and up to one billion animals are dead. At that time, neither insects, fish nor frogs are included, according to a video from the Australian Academy of Science.

Thousands of people have become homeless, and some have been forced to evacuate several times due to the unpredictable - and fatal - fires.

"Most people have started cycling"

From Reuters also comes apocalyptic testimonies that closely resemble scenes from the Australian cult film "Mad Max" with reports of problems with electricity supply and lack of gasoline.

- Electricity is slowly coming back but everyone is dependent on generators and the fuel for them is very limited. People have run out of gas, so most people have started cycling, says Mark Tregallas from the coastal city of Mallacoota.

At the same time, the authorities warn that the fires, exacerbated by extremely high heat and a three-year drought, will go out only when it starts to rain properly.
