Rarely has the outcome of a presidential election been so uncertain in Tunisia. Seven million voters were called to the polls Sunday, September 15 to choose their head of state among a myriad of candidates. A vote against a backdrop of strong social and economic expectations, in a context of rejection of the political class at the helm since the 2011 revolution.
Great unknown of this election also, the abstention could tilt the votes. At 1 pm (12 noon GMT), the turnout rate was no more than 16.3 percent, according to the Election Management Body, which said it was "disappointed with this rate".
