This Tuesday, October 22, 2019, Marie-Christine Saragosse, CEO of FMM, inaugurates RFI's new offices for mandenkan and fulfulde. The "radio of the world" has been broadcasting in Mandingo since 2015 to the speakers of Mali, Guinea, Burkina Faso, Ivory Coast, Senegal and Fulfulde - spoken in about twenty countries - since April 2019.

RFI is thus getting closer to its listeners and offers them - as in French - quality regional and international information. This Monday, in the headline of the mid-day Mandenkan newspaper : the anti-third-term mobilization in Guinea, or the conflict between Turkey and the Kurds.

" We have a broad opening on international news. For most listeners, this is what interests them most, because they have local news, but also the African news in particular, security issues, political issues , "says journalist Baba Maiga, native from Mali, which has been part of the editorial since these beginnings.

Go to the listeners

The RFI team in Mandenkan has been working so far from Paris, with a network of correspondents. The installation in Dakar will give it a new dimension, according to the coordinator of the essays in mandenkan and fulfulde, Frédéric Garat.

" It's very important that we are geographically as close as possible to our listeners. For the Mandenkan, it is at least 40 million listeners, for Fulfulde, Pular, Peul, it is 40 to 45 million listeners who speak potentially this language and that is why we go towards them. "

In Fulfulde, RFI offers two magazines every weekend, entitled "So what do we say? "The target is young people," says journalist Aïssatou Ly: " We had programs broadcast in French or in other languages. The fact of doing it in one language, Fulfulde, is mostly giving the right information, because there are so many fake news. "

On the program of the latest programs: schooling for girls, breast cancer, or "young people and marriage".
