Harley-Davidson confirmed Monday that it has suspended the production and delivery of its LiveWire electric motorcycle model on which the brand has based part of its diversification strategy.
"We recently discovered an irregularity during the last quality control, we stopped production and deliveries, and we started to carry out additional tests and analyzes, which are progressing satisfactorily," the company said in a statement. transmitted to AFP.
According to the Wall Street Journal, the decision to suspend production was made after finding a problem with the vehicle's battery charging.
The manufacturer did not say when he planned to resume production of his electric motorcycle.
Unveiled in 2014, the LiveWire model has been available at resellers in North America and Western Europe this fall for around $ 30,000, according to the Harley-Davidson website.
The manufacturer in Milwaukee (Wisconsin, North) has relied heavily on electric vehicles to attract a younger audience as it faces the aging of its traditional customer base and the lack of renewal of its range.
Harley-Davidson posted sales down more than 6% in the second quarter of 2019.
On Wall Street, the stock of Harley-Davidson however rose 0.31% Monday at the close.
