Chilean President Sebastian Piñera announced Tuesday a package of social measures to end the protests that have shaken the South American country for five days following an increase in the price of public transport.
The Head of State mentioned in particular the increase of 20% of the minimum pension and the freezing of electricity tariffs, in a speech which marks a radical turning point compared to his last statements, very firm vis-à-vis protesters, while the crisis has already killed 15 people. Mr. Piñera also acknowledged "a lack of vision" and asked "forgiveness" to his compatriots. A dramatic change of tone on the part of the one who considered Sunday Chile "at war against a powerful enemy".

Interior Minister Andrés Chadwick had lifted the veil shortly after a meeting attended by left-wing opposition parties: "The president has listened with great attention to the various proposals and is going to soon to address the country to propose a social program ".
