“We were horrified to learn from the press about the terrible crime in which Oleg Sokolov is supposed to be guilty. Given that he was a teacher in the Department of Modern History of St. Petersburg University, acted as a visiting professor at the Practical School of Higher Studies at the Sorbonne, was awarded the French Order of the Legion of Honor, we could not imagine that he could commit this terrifying act, ” says the ISSEP communiqué.

The statement said ISSEP would immediately remove Sokolov’s role as a member of the scientific council and expresses its condolences and support to the victim’s family.

Earlier, the Investigative Committee of Russia opened a criminal case on the murder after a man was pulled out of the Moika River in St. Petersburg, in the backpack of which were two female hands and a traumatic gun.

According to media reports, we are talking about an associate professor of St. Petersburg State University Oleg Sokolov. Presumably, his victim is a 24-year-old girl who studied with Sokolov and was a co-author of several of his scientific works.
