A Danish radio on Friday published the identity of the man responsible for the bombing of a Russian plane in Egypt's Sinai in 2015.

The radio "DR" that the Danish citizen Basil Hassan was involved in the bombing of the Russian A321 aircraft in the skies of the Sinai Peninsula in 2015.

According to the same source, Danish journalists obtained information through an investigation into Australian citizen Khalid Khayat, who is accused of preparing a terrorist attack on a flight between Sydney and Dubai, where he was arrested in 2017.

Al-Khayyat, who is linked to the Islamic State, said during his confessions to Australian police that his brother Tariq and Basil Hassan were behind the failed attack.

Investigations also suggest that the same method was used to carry out both attacks, the same source said.

Born Hassan in 1987, a citizen of Denmark, the real name is Mohammed Basil Sheikh, graduated from the Faculty of Engineering.

On October 31, 2015, an Airbus A321 crashed in Sinai en route from the Egyptian resort of Sharm el-Sheikh to the Russian city of St. Petersburg, with 224 people on board, including 24 children.
