Yesterday, the Knowledge and Human Development Authority in Dubai reported that there will be no increase in school fees for private schools for the next academic year 2022-2023, based on the approved education cost index issued by the Dubai Statistics Center, which is based on the international scientific statistical methodology in compiling index numbers. The methodology used in calculating the annual adjustments to school fees is the framework of the school fees control framework for private schools in Dubai.
Yesterday, the authority officially notified private schools in Dubai of the education cost index approved for the school fees control framework for the next academic year (2022-2023), which scored (negative) 1.01%, in implementation of the school fees control framework and its updates in 2019, in line with With the strategic goals of the authority and information provided by parents and private school operators.
The Executive Director of the Permits and Compliance Sector at the Authority, Mohammed Ahmed Darwish, said: “The private school education system in Dubai has shown sufficient flexibility to adapt to exceptional circumstances during the last period, which has contributed to an increase in the enrollment rate of students in private schools by 5.8% since February of 2021, and the emirate’s continuity To enhance its attractiveness as a preferred destination for well-known educational service providers to do business in Dubai.”
Darwish pointed out that the education cost index is the methodological mechanism used to calculate and regulate school fees adjustments in private schools in Dubai, in accordance with the school fees control framework, which came into force for the first time in 2012, and was updated in 2019, in cooperation with the relevant government agencies in Dubai, and based on information obtained from parents and operators of private schools.
He explained that the framework applies an internationally approved scientific methodology and technical standards, linking the “quality of education” and the “education cost index”, in a manner that takes into account the interests of students and their parents as beneficiaries of educational services, and encourages schools to improve the quality of education in them with long-term action plans, within An integrated mechanism for controlling and regulating school fees, balancing the educational and economic aspects, and protecting the interests of all parties to the educational process.
The Executive Director of the Permits and Compliance Sector at the authority pointed out that the education cost index keeps pace with stimulating government measures that take into account the interests of all parties, in light of the diversity of educational options in front of parents, which contributed to moving towards achieving a balance between the needs of parents on the one hand and the educational opportunities available to schools their children on the other hand.
Private schools in Dubai have recorded an increase in the enrollment rates of their students by 5.8% since February of 2021, and Dubai has witnessed the opening of about 21 new private schools during the past three years, as the emirate hosts 215 private schools, applying 18 diverse educational curricula.
