The mayor of Montpellier (Hérault), Michaël Delafosse (PS), was crowned "local elected of the year" during the 29th Trombinoscope awards ceremony, Wednesday, at the National Assembly, which rewards "the action and the professionalism of political figures ”.

The distinction welcomes "affirmed convictions, implemented commitments and territorial modernity", in the words of journalist Emmanuel Kessler, of Public Senate, reported by the city, in a press release.

"Side ideas, he embodies a social left, ecological and offensive on security," noted the one who gave him his prize.

The implementation of free public transport (for the moment only on weekends) and the charter of secularism in Montpellier was welcomed during the ceremony.

Michaël Delafosse, 43, who got involved when he was a high school student, then a student, in unions, was elected with the support of EELV mayor and president of the Montpellier metropolis last July.

In 2008, he was elected municipal councilor under the mandate of Hélène Mandroux (PS), where he served as deputy mayor for culture and then for town planning, before joining the opposition, after the election of Philippe Saurel (various left).

During this ceremony, the mayor of Paris, Anne Hidalgo (PS), received the prize for Political Personality of the Year 2020. That of political revelation was awarded to Eric Dupond-Moretti, appointed Minister of Justice in July.

And the Minister of the Economy, Bruno Le Maire received the Minister of the Year award.
