Berlin (dpa) - Due to heavy snowfall, there will also be major restrictions on long-distance rail traffic on Sunday.

Trains are currently not running between Hamburg and North Rhine-Westphalia and between Hamburg and Hanover - there are restrictions between Hamburg and Berlin, as Deutsche Bahn announced in the morning.

The Leipzig / Halle region is not approached by long-distance traffic.

"Particularly strong wind and snow drifts make the emergency services to create."

Problems in regional traffic had already been reported in NRW and Lower Saxony.

"In Thuringia, Saxony-Anhalt and Saxony, the train traffic is impaired by heavy snowfall," it now said.

The situation at the train stations is calm.

Most of the people followed the recommendation of the German Weather Service and stayed at home.
