Ludwigshafen (dpa / lrs) - The police stopped a drunk wrong-way driver on the 650 motorway near Ludwigshafen.

The 33-year-old was driving his car on the B9 in the direction of Speyer on Sunday evening, as the police announced.

At the Oggersheim interchange, the man drove against the direction of travel on the A650 in the direction of Bad Dürkheim.

A police patrol that happened to be behind the car started the chase.

Another patrol blocked the autobahn, stopped the man in his car "and, after he did not want to get out at first, directed the man out of the vehicle while holding the service weapon in front of him," the police report said.

A breath alcohol test with him showed 2.14 per thousand.

In addition, the man was reportedly staying illegally in Germany.

He is now being investigated for traffic hazard as well as illegal entry, illegal residence and illegal work.
