Heerenveen (dpa) - Joel Dufter won a medal at an international speed skating championship for the first time with an EM bronze.

At the end of the sprint all-around competition in Heerenveen over 1000 meters in 1: 08.93 minutes, the 25-year-old Inzeller came in third and thus also defended his third place in the overall ranking of the European Championships.

The title went to the Dutchman Thomas Krol in front of his compatriot Heim Otterspeer.

Nico Ihle from Chemnitz had forfeited all chances of a front placement in a serious fall on the second 500 meters.

Hendrik Dombek from Munich took tenth place in the final ranking.

Katja Franzen cracked the 39-second mark over 500 meters in 38.86 seconds for the first time in her career in the women's sprint four-way battle after two personal bests at the start on Sunday.

In the overall ranking, the Inzell woman also came in tenth.

European champion was Jutta Leerdam from the Netherlands.

This means that all four European championship titles went to the hosts.
