Chemnitz (dpa / sn) - The fire in an apartment building in Chemnitz, in which the entire building had to be evacuated on Friday, was deliberately set.
The police said on Sunday that it was being investigated for serious arson.
Criminal investigators who investigated the cause of the fire had secured evidence that suggests an intentional arson in the area of a washing machine in the basement of the house.
A 31-year-old resident was slightly injured.
The fire brigade was able to extinguish the fire quickly on Friday evening, but all 16 residents had to leave the house due to the heavy smoke development.
After the stairwell and the apartments were ventilated, people were able to return after about an hour and a half, the police said.
