Schiffweiler / Neunkirchen (dpa) - A car driver rolled over the leg of a five-year-old in Schiffweiler-Heiligenwald in Saarland.

The child was seriously injured in the hospital on Monday, as the police in Neunkirchen announced on Tuesday.

The five-year-old and another child had chalked the floor of a private parking lot where the 36-year-old driver wanted to park.

The five-year-old's mother, who was also present, asked the children to make room.

The driver thought the children were gone and drove his vehicle into the parking lot, where the five-year-old was still sitting.

He ran it over the boy's left leg, shortly afterwards he sat back in shock, according to the police, and rolled over the leg again.

The child suffered broken shins and knee injuries.
