22 December 2020 The European Union "is ready to negotiate until the end of the year and beyond" to avoid a "no deal" on Brexit, when there are just a few days left until the deadline of 31 December.
This was said by the EU chief negotiator Michel Barnier, according to when he learns in Brussels.
Referring to the ambassadors of the 27, Barnier said that "progress has been made" and that "most of the problems have been preliminarily closed or are close to agreement".
However - according to EU sources -, Barnier recalled that "differences in fisheries remain difficult to bridge".
The Frenchman then pointed out that "unfortunately, the UK is still not moving enough to conclude a fair fisheries agreement".
Taking stock of the negotiations with the representatives of the member states, Barnier said he had rejected a recent offer from London on the issue, which remains the main issue to be resolved in the talks between the United Kingdom and the EU.
