Jagels succeeds the previous Bayreuth managing director Holger von Berg, whose contract was not extended after five years and will expire in April.

The area of responsibility of the second managing director alongside director Katharina Wagner includes ticket sales and the renovation of the Festspielhaus, while Wagner is more responsible for the artistic part.

Contracts with singers and musicians always have to be signed by both managing directors.

As administrative director of the Leipzig Opera, Jagels was responsible for several construction projects with an estimated total volume of 30 million euros, according to the festival.

This experience could also benefit him in Bayreuth with the million dollar renovation of the festival hall.
