China News Agency, Berlin, January 12 (Reporter Peng Dawei) As of the evening of the 12th local time, the cumulative number of people diagnosed with the new crown virus in Germany has exceeded 1.95 million.

On the same day, the state of Baden-Württemberg in southwestern Germany announced that it had confirmed the country's first case of infection with the new crown variant strain that appeared in South Africa.

Prior to this, multiple cases of infection with mutant strains that appeared in the UK had been confirmed in many places in Germany.

The German disease control agency announced that the number of new confirmed cases was 12,802.

According to the real-time data of Germany's "Times Online", as of 20:00 local time on the 12th, Germany had a total of 1,953,029 confirmed cases, 1,569,445 cured and 42,852 deaths.

The vaccination data released by the CDC showed that as of the morning of the 12th, 6,878,82 people in Germany had been vaccinated.

On the same day, the Baden-Württemberg state government announced that a patient in the state had detected the "B.1.351" new crown virus strain believed to have first appeared in South Africa.

This is the first confirmed case of infection with the "B.1.351" strain in Germany.

It is reported that the patient's family returned from South Africa to Zollenarb County, Baden-Wurttemberg, Germany on December 13, 2020, and was quarantined at home.

The nucleic acid test performed after 5 days was negative.

But after this week, his family members began to show mild symptoms.

The local area then sent the patient's nucleic acid samples to the National Covid-19 Laboratory at the Charité Medical School in Berlin for virus sequencing.

Finally, the Berlin laboratory confirmed the presence of the "B.1.351" strain in the sample on January 11.

The state government of Baden-Württemberg stated that the test samples of the remaining close contacts are being sent to Berlin for analysis, and the health department of Zollen Alb County is maintaining close contact with the state-level health department.

On December 24 last year, Germany's first case of infection with the mutated new coronavirus strain "B.1.1.7" also appeared in Baden-Württemberg.

On the 8th of this month, Berlin also confirmed a case of infection with this strain.

The German BioNTech Company and the American Pfizer Company recently cited the latest research results from the United States to point out that the mRNA vaccines developed by them are still effective against the mutant strains currently appearing in the UK and South Africa.
