died early this morning due to injuries caused by

the attack of a dog

, a dangerous animal that he took for a walk and was owned by a friend.

According to municipal sources, the events took place yesterday around nine at night when the victim

went for a walk with the dog of a friend of hers, an

American Staffordshire Terrier, on Susvalls Street, in Cassà.

For reasons that are unknown and are being investigated, the dog attacked the man and seriously injured his left arm.

A witness called the local police and in a few minutes a patrol arrived at the place, where the agents

had to fire their regulation weapon

and shoot down the animal because it showed a very aggressive attitude and prevented the police and the health workers of the Emergency Medical System from approaching. (SEM) who went to attend to the victim.

Three EMS units traveled to the site, stabilizing the victim and transferring her to the Josep Trueta Hospital in Girona in critical condition.

The man was

admitted directly to the ICU

where, according to sources from the center, he died early this morning as a result of the seriousness of the injuries caused by the animal.

The City Council of Cassà de la Selva has issued a statement in which it details that a day of mourning will be decreed for the death of the neighbor and that the flag will fly at half-mast on Monday and Tuesday.

For their part, the Mossos d'Esquadra have taken over the investigation to clarify the circumstances surrounding the attack.
