The French "yellow vests" are a diffuse movement, which is both an advantage and a disadvantage for them, wrote Sascha Lobo in his most recent column. The advantage: Almost everyone can identify with a part of the movement. The downside: over-simplified medial depiction of very different concerns could harm them.

All this has been seen on Occupy Wall Street, writes Lobo: "Movements that emerge and are structured on social media often follow similar basic patterns". Quite meaningful, however, he finds the spontaneously recorded with smartphones anger videos of the "yellow vests", they led to "the trail of the backgrounds" of the protests. In his podcast Lobo now reacts to the comments of his readers.
