Lovers of torrijas, good wine and processions have an appointment from March 23 to April 1 to enjoy all three things at the same time and in the same space:

Aranda de Duero.

The Castilian-Leonese town, capital of the Ribera del Duero, celebrates on these special dates the third edition of the

Torrija and Lemonade Route,

organized by the ASOHAR Hoteliers Association. While the city prepares to live one of its most solemn moments with its traditional processions, the hospitality industry does so to offer the best recipes for this acclaimed seasonal sweet.

Declared a Festival of Regional Tourist Interest, the Arandina Holy Week is filled every year with locals and visitors to enjoy the steps and processions that cross its historic streets. Aranda de Duero has

nine brotherhoods and brotherhoods

that carry out their events these days. Among those that create the most expectation are the procession of La Borriquilla (Palm Sunday), El Encuentro, Holy Tuesday, the procession of El Silencio, Holy Thursday and the Descent, on Good Friday that precedes the general procession of the passion.

One of the most important events of the Arandina Holy Week is the

Bajada del Ángel,

which takes place on Easter Sunday. In this act, a boy or girl dressed as an angel and suspended from a cable removes the black veil of mourning from the Virgin, so that she can see and meet her resurrected son.

21 different torrijas

Between procession and procession, the public will be able to pay a sweet tribute at any of the

21 establishments in the region

that participate in the Torrija Route. Each one will offer their own version of this dessert, whose base is a slice of bread soaked in milk infused with sugar, cinnamon and lemon peel, coated in egg and then fried, and which has become the culinary star of these dates.

These establishments, along with six others, also participate simultaneously in the Lemonade route. Regarding this drink, it is not common, nor is it for minors, but it is

wine lemonade

or Easter lemonade, prepared with

red and rosé wine DO Ribera del Duero,

to which is added in a bowl, In addition, sugar, chopped lemon peel and cinnamon, which is then left to macerate for a couple of days, to be served very fresh.

The price set for these two products is free and will depend on each location, "the sizes vary, the way they are made also and, in some places, the torrijas are included as part of a drink," ASOHAR assures. As a reference, prices are usually between

3 and 5.90 euros for torrijas

and 2 and 2.30 euros for lemonades. There will be places where, if ordered together, the price will be per unit, 5 euros, as is the case of the
