Three days before the eighth anniversary of the still mysterious Chevaline massacre, the corpse of a man was discovered Wednesday near a burned-out car, containing weapons, a few dozen meters from the site of the massacre.

But there is currently no evidence to link these two tragedies.

The body of a man was discovered Wednesday near Chevaline, in Haute-Savoie.

200 meters from where, eight years ago almost to the day (it was September 5, 2012), four people, including three members of the same family, had been coldly shot by a gunman who never been found.

If for the moment there is nothing to link the two cases, the coincidence remains troubling.

The first disturbing element is of course the place, this famous sector of the Combe d'Ire in Chevalines, just 200 meters from the place where the Al-Hilli family had been decimated.

A date far from being trivial either, which gives a special echo to this discovery.

It would be a suicide

However, according to the first elements of the investigation, the corpse found charred near a car would have no connection with the killing.

It is believed to be the suicide of a 70-year-old man experiencing personal difficulties, but unrelated to the events of eight years ago.

The man has never been suspected, explains the Annecy prosecutor, who also specifies that the weapons found there are guns.

Nothing to do, therefore, with the Swiss small caliber pistol having served to suppress the English family.

The investigation still open

Further checks will still be carried out to completely close the door by the gendarmes of the Chevaline cell which, eight years after the events, still exists.

It was even reactivated not long ago following the retirement of several historical investigators.

The new team has even decided to re-examine all the elements of an already extensive investigation and perhaps even to hear soon the Al-Hilli children that the English justice authorized recently.

Eight years after the events, the Chevaline case is therefore still open.
