Already known to the justice system, the 28-year-old suspect has been prosecuted for "attempted homicide" since Friday by the investigative judge of the criminal pole of Grenoble, where he was presented after a guard at sight of 48 hours.

A 50-year-old man died of his injuries on Saturday after being beaten up in Gap earlier this week by a man he is said to have housed and who has been charged and imprisoned for these acts, the Grenoble prosecutor's office said on Sunday.

Already known to the justice system, the 28-year-old suspect has been prosecuted for "attempted homicide" since Friday by the investigative judge of the criminal pole of Grenoble, where he was presented after a guard at sight of 48 hours.
Arrested on Wednesday in Gap, he is suspected of having struck the victim the previous day, very violently, his victim, a fifty-year-old, who would have sheltered him at her home "several days" before the facts. She was found unconscious the next day by the firefighters "with numerous bruises and lesions on the face and body" before being transported to the Gap Hospital Center and then to the Timone in Marseille with a "vital prognosis engaged", said in a press release the public prosecutor of Grenoble, Eric Vaillant.

The reason advanced? "The disappearance of a sum of money of 300 euros"

During his hearings, the suspect allegedly made "minimalist confessions" declaring that he had "a stampede with his victim" while the two men spent the evening together. The reason advanced, "the disappearance of a sum of money of 300 euros". Leaving the victim alone after the fact, the suspect would have returned the next day with a friend to whom he had asked, according to his statements, to warn the firefighters before the "state of unconsciousness" of the fifties.
"On July 11, 2020, the investigating judge was informed of the death of the victim. Consequently, the Grenoble public prosecutor's office will seize the investigating judge of additional requisitions for voluntary homicide and an autopsy will be ordered by the investigating magistrate ", added the magistrate on Sunday.

Investigations must now continue on a letter rogatory from an investigating judge. The young suspect is also suspected of attempted extortion of a vulnerable person in Gap, earning him arrest by the police on Monday before being released. An investigation, opened by the Gap prosecution, was entrusted to the Urban Security Brigade (BSU) of the city police station.
